The origins of The Flannel Shirt date back to the 16th century "welsh cotton" (which was actually brushed wool). But most of us associate it with US railroad workers in the 1800s who were looking for comfortable, but durable apparel. Paying homage to its rugged origins we partnered withour Italian Woven Fabrics Mill (also known for our Chino, Shorts and Overshirt fabrics) to create a flannel that's as soft, as it's durable. Flannel is synonymous with a soft brushed twill surface, but with brushing, the fabric is naturally prone to pilling - something we tackled head-on by developing ours from a two-ply yarn, made from 100% organic cotton. The twisted yarn is far more robust than a single ply and is dyed on yarn level for superior color fastness. By weaving two sets of differently dyed yarns, the classic, subtle flannel twill contrast is achieved. Lastly, the fabric is carefully, mechanically brushed to soften its surface before being passed on to our dedicated Flannel Shirt factory in northern Portugal for expert tailoring and embellishment with our signature Mother Of Pearl buttons.
