Don’t let a loose button ruin your mood. Everybody knows the bothersome issue of loose buttons but few know how to sew them back on properly. You really don’t have to be an experienced tailor, simply follow the steps below and your garment will look like new again.
Thread the needle, double-fold the thread and make a knot tying both of the ends together.
Create an anchor point shaped as an X for extra stability and for marking where to put the button. Start at the back of the fabric and run the thread through the front. Repeat this in the shape of a small X.
Put the button over the X and make the first stitch by taking the thread from the back to the front through one of the buttonholes. Place a spacer (a pin, toothpick or a match) in the middle of the button and push the needle into another hole to create a stitch. Make 4-5 stitches over the button. Look at the other buttons on the garment and make sure you attach the button in the same way, i.e. cross or straight as well as the amount of stitches needed.
On the last repetition of step three, come back up on the face side on the fabric, just underneath the button. Wrap the thread around the threads underneath the button, four loops and drive the needle down to the back of the fabric again.
Make a a few small knots on the back, as close to the fabric as possible and cut it off.
