How to remove tomato or ketchup stains on your garments

Ketchup Stains

We all know about the famous ketchup effect. Ketchup stains may be a less known side-effect but very real all the same.

Step 1
Act fast, using a spoon or knife to scrape off as much of the sauce as possible from the surface of the fabric.

Step 2
Soak the stain in cold water. Make sure it is cold, hot water might set the stain. Put some stain remover or liquid detergent on the stain and gently work it into the stain in circular motions for a while with your finger or a small brush. For colored garments, make sure to use color safe, non-chlorine/bleach-free stain remover. Sometimes, soaking the garment in cold water and then rubbing dish detergent on the stain can be enough. If the stain is still visible, repeat this process.

Step 3
In worst case, use a mild bleach on the stubborn stain before next step. For colored garments, make sure to use color safe, non-chlorine bleach and check their colorfastness to bleach first. For wool products, skip this step.

Step 4
When you can’t see the stain any more, dry the garment or wash it as normal in the machine*.
