How to remove chocolate stains from your clothing

Chocolate Stains

"Life is like a box of chocolates", or sometimes like getting a chocolate stain on your favourite piece of clothing before a hot date or an important work meeting. Oh well, these things happen, so no need to ruin your day over it and we'll help you out with an easy to follow stain removal guide.

Step 1
Start off by carefully scraping away as much as possible of the chocolate from the surface of the fabric.

Step 2
Flush the back of the stained fabric with cold running water. If possible, hold the reverse of the fabric under the tap, or if that’s impossible or if the garment isn't washable, saturate the stain with cold water. This will help loosen the chocolate particles from the clothing fibres.

Step 3
Rub a liquid washing detergent or dish washing liquid into the stain. If you're in a rush, this will do until you can treat the stain more thoroughly.

Step 4
Let the garment soak in cold water for 15-30 minutes and gently rub the stain until it's gone. If needed, reapply more detergent on the stain. If your garment isn't washable, use a damp cloth to remove the detergent/liquid instead of soaking it.

Step 5
Wash the garment as usual according to the care label instructions. If the stain hasn't disappeared before this step, apply some stain remover on the stain and then wash as usual. If the garment isn't washable, use a damp cloth to get rid of the stain remover and blot dry the area afterwards with a dry cloth. Be careful when using a stain remover on darker garments; many stain removers contain bleach, which can cause color fade.
